Read carefully

There is going to be a long break for all of your, so use your time properly and complete all the tasks assigned. This post will include many stuffs so read carefully, do not skip any part or info.

Just a note:
Some of you guys may not know the reason why we dismissed your so early last cca on tues, though some do. To let you guys know, the excos were extremely disappointed and angry at your behaviours during cca. We know, many of you may think we PMS or mood swing, suddenly angry and "show attitude". The reason to it is because there is a time to have fun and a time to be serious, which you guys did not show to us that you know how to differentiate the two. Your were SO noisy when we asked your to try out the first aid method. Screaming, shouting, laughing and IGNORING whatever the excos say.

How many times did we asked your to keep your volume down? Did anyone listen? Didn't we inform your that there is Band in the next classroom?(maybe your didn't hear cos your were extremely noisy) What does this show about YOU ALL?
You guys ought to reflect on your behaviours.

Dateline: first cca after exams (around mid-oct)
There is quite some work to be done but your have approx 1 month ++ to complete it. At the same time, it is beneficial and can be treated as revision for your exams as most of them requires writing. Indicate your name and patrol on the front. Sloppy works will be failed.

5) Thrift badge
Keep updating your thrift badge daily, treat this as your own practice of taking note of how you are handling your money. Some of you might think it is silly and just anyhow fill in all the way, but this is just a test of your own discipline and honesty.

We will collect it on the first cca after the exams which is around mid-october. Dont forget to indicate your names and patrol.

6) POP
Its a long break for your so take this time to meet up and practice for your performance. If there are people that cannot make it when your plan a meetup, then just practice with the people that can make it. The others can organise a meet up another day, or catchup on your own.

We hope your take this seriously as this is a show of appreciation to the seniors that have done so much all for your, regardless of the amount of time spent with them, or how much you know them. We want to see a perfectly coordinated and well-practiced performance by your. Be ready to show us soon.

7) Guides EOY Camp
It will held from 1 - 3 december, so do not plan any vacation trips, tuition, appointments or family matters during that period. It is a 3 days 2 night camp, where there will be a mixture of trainings and bonding sessions, as well as games. We can ensure you that it will be very enjoyable if you guys all listen to instructions, cooperate with us and interact with one another.

8) Photographer
This is new among girlguides, so we want your to volunteer instead of us choosing. The main purpose of having a photographer, one per level, is to capture all the memorable and meaningful events and cca times, as well as useful information (eg the process of setting up a real campfire). If you are interested to be one, do tag in the tagboard or sms any excos (if you dont have the our number, text ur PL or PS then they will send your names to us). Dont have to worry if there is more than one volunteer in your level, you just have to tell us that you wish to become one.
Note:

★ You must have a digital CAMERA to become the photographer, no handphones or other digital devices allowed.
★ Take good quality pictures regarding guides (not blurry ones) and can only use it when you are given permission (eg if you are marching, obviously, you are not allowed to fall out and take pictures)
★ Might have to lend others to take pic using your camera (eg the excos)
★ Must send all the pictures to the excos after cca or the day after cca immediately (dont ask us to "take" from facebook, we want the pictures sent to us via google apps)
★ If you are not doing your job properly, you will be replaced
★ The camera is YOUR responsibility, we will not be responsible if it is lost or spoilt. At times when you are not using it, you can pass it to the excos to take care of it or put it in your pockets.
★ Dateline: 1 oct, plenty of time for your to think abt it. If no volunteers, we will choose then. Any questions, ask the excos.

9) SEP; cardio kickboxing
We have cancelled our plans for SEP as most of your expressed that your are not interested in learning it, and we also can use the time for other plans, such as initiatives.

10) EXCO JOBS
Yuan Shan (CL) & Diana (ACL) are the overall in-charge for cca,
the coordinator between the teachers and company.
They take disciplinary actions if rules are not adhered,
come up with new ideas and plans for guides and
basically ensure that everything is running well during cca.
They assists teachers in making sure that everything is discussed, well planned and carried out correctly for all guides event.

Ruilin (Secretary) is in charge of settling all the admin stuffs,
like doing the agendas or organising all of our badges.
She helps the teachers by interacting with them closely,
knowing their expectations and plans for guides,
then makes sure everything is worked out properly,
as well as informing the respective people about the plans we have.

Grace (Treasurer) is the in charge for all financial matters.
She makes sure that all the required amount is collected and well kept.
She works closely with the teachers to claim any money spent by our guides that is eligible to claim from guides fund, as well as being in charge of logistics.
She ensures that there is sufficient or available materials if needed for any guides matter.

Sarah (Pupils welfare) is the in charge for YOUR welfare.
She makes sure that the welfare of all guides is taken care of,
settles any disputes or unhappiness among guides,
collects consent forms and guides room key.
She posts details on the blog and takes the attendance, as well as collect any MC or parents letter. She works with the teachers to solve problems regarding guides, like regular skipping of cca, and ensures that all of ur know what to do during cca.

The reason of posting all the info above, is to let your understand the jobs of us excos better. From now onwards, tell the CORRECT person if you need to tell them anything. When we say "inform the excos", depending on what you need to inform us about, tell the correct exco.

Examples:
If you cannot come for cca, tell Sarah.
If you lose your consent form or certain badge, tell RuiLin.
If you are unsure of certain citeria or rules of guides, ask Yuanshan or Diana.
If you need to hand up guides cookie money, go to Grace.

Of course, if only certain excos are going or in charge of certain event, tell that exco. Eg, dont tell Sarah you cannot go for campfire if Yuanshan and Diana are going with your only. If you do not have any of the exco's number, tell your PL or PS, then PL and PS, tell the correct exco as well.
*For roles of PL and PS, check the guides website.

11) World Badge
If your world badge is faulty or lost, inform ruilin asap. We will not always offer to buy badges that is spoilt or lost for your, we are doing this as a large number of your needed a new world badge. Take good care of ALL your badges, not only world badge, if you lost any one, its your own PROBLEM and RESPONSIBILITY, go and buy a new one if it's something you can buy from the guides HQ, if not, you will not have that badge until an opportunity to retake the test (to get the badge) comes. Dateline: 31 aug

Badges like enrollment badge is very important, and you are not allowed to wear your uniform without it. Check the guides website if you are unsure of anything regarding the badges & guides uniform, if not stated on the site, ask the excos.

THATS ALL, its a long post so make sure you took note of all the stuffs. The details for the next cca meeting will be up when its nearing. Meanwhile, have a good break and study well for your exams. Come back for cca with better behaviours and attitudes.

We want to hear feedback from you guys! :) So please write your answers for the following questions on a small piece of paper, preferably smaller than A4. This will be anonymous, you need not write your names or patrol or whatsoever, so you may print it or write it. Please be 100% honest, we want true comments / feedbacks.

Also, please elaborate on your answers, we want specific answers. Example; dont tell us you want more games during cca, tell us WHAT GAMES, among patrol or level or groups, why do you want to play. If you say someone is quiet, elaborate how this affects you / situation, is she ALWAYS quiet, if she is quiet does she still contribute etc..
Be realistic as well, dont give us weird answers, we are doing this because we want to know how you think, not to read your funny or playful comments.

QUESTIONS:
1. What do you like & dislike about CCA? (at least 1 example each, this need not be an activity, you may talk about the people, teachers, friends or even attire etc..) Why?

2. What do you want to do more during CCA, other than the compulsory stuffs (compulsory stuffs like marching, badges, camps)?

3. What do you like & dislike about your patrol? (at least 1 example each)

4. 3 things to improve cca, 2 things you like doing during cca, 1 thing you dislike to do during cca? (this qn is different fr qn 2, how to improve as in: how to make it better, how to make everyone enjoy cca etc. This qn is asking what you like or dislike to DO during cca, totally different from qn 1 or 2!)

5. At least 1 thing good and bad about this person, and how she can improve:
- Company Leader: Yuan Shan
- Assistant Company Leader: Diana
- Secretary: Rui Lin

- Girl Guides

7. What do you wish to have during guides camp at the end of the year? (Dont tell us what you DONT want, tell us some of the stuffs you wish to try out)

8. Other comments (optional)

Some of the questions MIGHT sound similar, but they are actually asking for different things, so read carefully before answering. :) Anything you are unsure of, please ask us asap. Do not wait till friday cca. We want to collect it on friday. Of course, do write in proper english, no singlish or short-forms, if you want to list your answers in bullet form, you may but you must elaborate. There is no need to copy the whole qn, but please indicate the question number.

Also, all sec 3s are to meet the excos after cca on friday. So after we sing the taps, stay back for awhile. :)

SEE YOU ALL ON FRIDAY! :D

END OF NDP!

HI GUIDES! GREEEAAAT JOB TO EVERYONE THAT PARTICIPATED IN NDP & CWSS DAY :D

As quoted from Mrs Cheah's email:

"Dear Commonwealthians,

It was a spectacular performance today. The precision of execution is testament to the tenacity, discipline and teamwork of the uniformed groups. Thank you also to the UG leaders for your leadership. Students at the booths, your knowledge and enthusiasm for your craft shines through. All of you have been good ambassadors for Commonwealth. I'm very proud of all of you.

I trust that this National Day has been a meaningful one for you. Happy National Day!"

Both CWSS day and NDP @ AyerRajar had earned praise from many people. Seniors, teachers, other UG members and even many of the teachers and Guests Of Honour ^^ Thank you to all involved guides for contributing! Of course, there's still room for improvement, but hope you guys had a wonderful time and experience!

Also, to all the guides that participated in the Singapore NDP! :D SUPER GREAT JOB! All your efforts and time put into the intensive rehearsals has been paid off, TOTALLY ;) This is a super rare opportunity, once in a lifetime experience, so never forgot all that you have gone through and learnt :D

Have a good rest and friday's CCA details will be up soon. :)

<3 GUIDES!

August 8, 2011

Ayer Rajar Parade

9th August 2011 Tuesday
All of you guys are supposed to report to Ayer Rajar CC at 6.45am. The CC is just right behind our school, within walking distance.

TIME: 6.45am sharp
WHAT TO BRING:
1. Consent forms
2. Coupons
3. Small plastic bag for flowermaking booth
4. Water Bottles
5. Sec 1s: the alphabets you guys are supposed to make
ATTIRE: Full guides uniform
(Parade ppl: Boots. The rest: White CANVAS shoes)

#1 From now onwards, we are not going to spoonfeed any one of your, we are not going to keep posting small details that you guys are supposed to know or check yourselves, such as "Full guides uniform: hat, belt, badges, boots" or "Plaits to be plaited all the way down, short hair to be tucked neatly into a hairnet". All these info had been repeated umpteen times and we are going to stop doing that, so as to not allow your rely too much on others.

#2 If you reach early tomorrow, and needs to change boots or tie hair, do it all at one corner. Dont sit in groups far apart and occupy the whole corridor / hall.

#3 Dont forget to bring anything or be late. We are going to FALL IN at 6.45am, so if you need to adjust any part of your guides uniform, reach early. This is your responsibility.

#4 Make sure your uniform is up to standard, not any part of your uniform should be missing or wrong. All the info you need will be in either the guides handbook, guides website or in our own guides blog.

#5 Never ever take out your hat without permission. If we say take out your hat, EVERYONE is supposed to take out, fold it nicely and place it on your shoulder. No one is allowed to wear back, hold your hat, or place it anywhere. If we did not give permission to take it out, you are supposed to wear it all the wear till permission granted or till you change out of guides uniform.

#6 For the parade people, please drink loads of water and have filling meals. Hopefully no one falls out tmr, but if you are really not feeling well, FALL OUT PROPERLY, dont just walk out. Be strong and persevere till the end!

#7 HEART TO HEART.
Fall in means fall in, STOP whatever you are doing and quickly fall in. You guys are really really really slow when we ask your to do things, maybe that is because your dont treat our words seriously, we are being too nice to your and your think punishments are lame. So if that is the msg you want to convey to us, continue strolling from places to places and continue to KEEP MOVING when ur are already falled in.

We thought it would be much better to talk and to instruct your nicely, not to keep screaming or scolding your, but it seems like everyone takes advantage of it. We always have to repeat our instructions more than 3 times. Yes, we are smiling and laughing, but that doesnt mean that what we are saying or doing at that moment is to be treated lightly, everything done during cca is to be treated seriously and not as a laughing matter. Why? Because we have a standard to keep up to and we are holding the name of Girl Guides UNIFORM GROUP.

Some of you guys might think that we are still smiling so we are not angry, or we can joke with your so your can take your own sweet time to do things, but the reason we do that is cos we thought that we can use a nicer and more reasonable tone to instruct your which your will listen to, we thought that your will be more willing to listen to instructions from a friendlier, happier person that speaks with a nice tone rather than an angry, screaming, black-faced person.

But it seems like, when we do that, the standard of guides will drop, and keep on dropping. Have you ever seen those uniform group people on tv during NDP adjusting or talking when they are falled in, or have you ever seen other uniform grps having to take more than an hour to adjust and wear the PROPER attire?
Before you complain about ANYTHING or ask ANYTHING, always ask yourself first, is there anything YOU CAN DO. Example, dont know how to tie plaits. Yah, many many of us don't know how to tie, even the excos, but before coming to those with leadership positions and complaining about how troublesome it is, or begging us to allow you to bun your hair, ask yourself, is there ANYthing you can do. Yes, you can always report earlier, find a senior or friend that knows how to tie to help you, ask a family member or go online and learn.
Put yourselves in our shoes, not every rule or activity is something we can change or decide easily, so stop coming to us and asking us if you can not do this or that, wear this or that, change this or that.

Of course, if you still have any other questions or things that you are unsure of, after trying to clear your doubts by yourself, ask us asap. We hope you guys understand how we feel and how hard it is for us sometimes, esp with our standards dropping currently.

On the happy note, many people praised the guides contingent today for our excellent discipline and perseverance. Keep up the good work! Proud of you guys for enduring the long standing period!:)

See your all tmr!

Short Hair: All your hair to be tucked into a hair net that covers your entire head, something like a shower cap. Strictly no tying of hair into pony tail!

~ Why bring small plastic bag? ~
In celebration for NDP, our very own guides will be setting up a booth for Flower-Making :) It is not only pretty easy and decorative, it is also environmentally friendly! ^^ Most of you guys may already know, that it uses plastic bags to construct the petals of the flowers. Super nice and easy. :) So to support them, everyone is required to bring at least 1 small plastic bag. This applies to everyone, even those helping out at the booth or parade ppl. :)

[For the sec 1s]
We need a banner for the booth, so some of your will be given a letter to cut out (mostly those not involved in any event, otherwise randomly chosen). Please cut out the letter from a magazine, choose a page with many colours. It must be A4-sized, not any smaller or bigger. We really need your help with this, so if you cannot come on monday / tuesday, please ask another sec 1 to help you cut your letter.

Hand up your letter to Sarah on MONDAY, all letters to be in caps. Thanks for all your help. :)
Christabel -->C
Afiqah -->S
Navni --> S
Esther --> G
Rachel --> I
Dana --> R
Li Ying --> L
Loo Jia Yi --> G
Mazal --> U
Shafiqah --> I
Khalishah --> D
Chee Jia Yi --> E
Shariffa --> S
Shelley --> !

[For the sch NDP ppl]

Drink plenty of water, hydrate yourselves the night before. Do have a light breakfast at home before reporting. We know it might be very early for some of you to report / wake up, but please treat this seriously as it is something to be really proud of. We are representing commonwealth, as well as your very own CCA, girl guides, in front of the whole school and even the public.

Also, some of you guys might think it is very ugly or nerdy to wear such long socks, knee-length skirt or to pin up your fringes, but dont feel insecure or slouch, always be confident as that is what determines your beauty. Sounds cheesy but still.. ;)

Recollections:

There was a time, not long ago,
When other flags flew in Singapore.
The British flag in colonial rule,
And the Japanese flag in war.
There was no freedom, no justice,
When our forefathers stepped ashore.
Life was a struggle, bitter and hard,
And families were hungry and poor.
There spoke a dozen different tongues,
Though their dreams were all the same.
But their hopes for a better life were lost,
When war and invasion came.

They had no rights, they had no say,
And they longed to be free one day.

After the war, we called for a change,
For the right to decide our fate.
Some of us wanted democracy,
Others, a communist state.
Riots and killings in our streets,
Years of hate and fear.
People said we'd never survive,
As independence drew near.
When self-rule came, we took a vote
And joined Malaysia as one.
But even friends disagree sometime,
And more trouble had soon begun.

Our happiness was not to be,
Until our country could be free.

August nine, nineteen sixty-five,
We were out of Malaysia... alone!
Against all odds we had to build
A nation of our own.
We've come this far, by ourselves,
One people from many lands.
Our forefathers paid the price for us;
Now the future is in our hands.
This is our home, where we belong,
And our flag flies high and free.
But let's not take for granted,
What we have will always be.

We pledge to keep our nation free
With justice and equality.

OKAY END OF POST. SEE YOU ALL ON MONDAY! :D

Girl Guides Expectations

Hello my fellow awesome guides :) This is a post everyone should take note and read carefully.
We have heard that many of you are unsure about many things about girl guides especially about parades, attire and etc. If any of you are unsure, it is YOUR responsibility to find out and not expect us to spoon-feed each one of you. You can get your answers from the Girl guides Singapore Website:
http://www.girlguides.org.sg/cos/o.x?c=/ggs/pagetree&func=view&rid=4595 or the Guides Handbook.

Pg 9-14 is about the basic knowledge and introduction about guides (company, patrol, etc), what you should already know. Read and memorise the taps on pg 14, the day one and the night one because we have realised that some of ya'll have not been singing the taps correctly. We will re-teach you the correct tune one day. Meanwhile, familiarise yourselves with these information.

Pg 23-24 is about the girl guides sign, salute and handshake.

Pg 26 part 2.3 is about knowing how to wear the guides uniform correctly. Many of you, especially the sec ones do not know how to wear your guides uniform. Simply refer to this page. And we will further reinforce about your attire. Your attire is what portrays your character best and if your attire is not up to standard, it will cast a bad impression not only on you but also on Girl Guides. Hence wearing the proper attire is necessary.

Hat: Your hat is called a girl guides hat (NOT a beret) so stop addressing it as a beret because it is different from other Uniform groups' beret. When you are wearing it, make sure that the left and right sides are properly ironed and they should be folded upwards. The front and back are not to be folded upwards, it should be pressed down. Iron/ Starch your hat. The sides should not be drooping downwards. When you are wearing the hat, the crest should be facing the middle.

Hair: Your hair should always be plaited from top to bottom in a french braid/ scorpion style. People with short hair are to buy a hairnet suitable for all your hair to be tucked inside completely. Fringes and flying feelers should all be clipped up neatly and only black accessories are allowed. When in your contingent, your plaits should be behind your shoulders at all times.

Accessories: All Earrings/ Ear studs/ Watches/ Handbands/ Hairbands/ Necklaces/ Other accessories - Are to be strictly removed when you are wearing the guides uniform or half uniform.

Scarf:
How to iron
1. When you iron your scarf, first flip it to the back, with the back of the crest facing you (the crest is to be underneath).
2. Measure 3 finger length above the crest and fold once. Iron it.
3. Then, without unfolding it, flip it back to the front (the crest is now facing you)
4. Fold the folded area (that is 3 finger above the crest) into half. Iron it.
5. Divide the half into 3 segments and iron it.

This may sound tedious and confusing but it is necessary to iron your scarf no matter what because a scarf that is not ironed looks extremely untidy. After you have ironed your scarf, bring it to the parade and tie it. The tying part can be taught personally. When you are wearing the scarf, your plaits or blouse SHOULD NOT cover the crest. It is an offense! The crest should be at your back, under you collar. After it has been tied, the trefoil can be put on.
Alternatively, if you do not understand, just visit the girl guides Singapore website:
http://www.girlguides.org.sg/cos/o.x?c=/ggs/pagetree&func=view&rid=5107

Blouse: Your blouse must be fully ironed. On the top of the blouse is where your rankings are sewn (for the excos, PLs and PSs) remember to sew your ranking down. The sleeves: At the top is where the CSS 1ST COY should be. Your proficiency badges (the round ones) should be sewn at your right side and with 1 finger spacing between each. Your left sleeve should be where your other badges are (eg. Civil Defence, total defence, etc). The front of your blouse should contain your world patch and centenary patch below.

Badges: You will have your trefoil (aka enrolment badge), world badge, gold/silver/bronze badge. Polish your badges with metal polish. make sure that they are shiny.

Belt: When you are wearing your uniform, do not ever forget to bring you belt! And polish the metal part of the belt.

Skirt:
ALL SKIRTS ARE TO BE KNEE-LENGTH, NOT ANY SHORTER.
ALL SKIRTS ARE TO BE KNEE-LENGTH, NOT ANY SHORTER.
ALL SKIRTS ARE TO BE KNEE-LENGTH, NOT ANY SHORTER.
If your skirt is above your knee, go and alter it straight away, make sure that when you kneel down, your skirt touches the ground. We are extremely serious. If your skirt is beyond repairation, you have no choice but to buy a new skirt OR we may have some spare skirts left behind by the seniors, you may want to ask from them.

Socks: Strictly white and LONG. If you do not have long socks that are 4 fingers above the ankle, we will just ask you to change into our spare LONG socks (in the guides room :P)

White Canvas Shoe/ Boots: Take note that the guides uniform goes with white canvas shoe and not boots, but they are meant to be worn only during parades. When asked to wear full guides uniform and white canvas shoes, the shoes are to be 110% white (NO PART SHOULD BE coloured and STRICTLY no wearing of sports shoes while wearing guides uniform). Shoelaces are to be tied parallel to each other.

Lastly, whilst wearing the uniform, be very careful as not to take off your hat and put it on the ground or let your crest on your scarf be covered. This is extremely important.

We are very strict about attire and knowledge about guides. Everyone is to visit the girl guides website: http://www.girlguides.org.sg/cos/o.x?c=/ggs/pagetree&func=view&rid=4595 and understand everything. No unnecessary doubts will be entertained and we will not spoon-feed you with so many details from now onwards. Do not question if your attire is acceptable if you know that it is not. Follow each and every rule strictly and your attire would be pleasing and perfect. For those participating in the NDP and CWSS day, take special note of your attire and the parade sequence. Please do not screw up or wear the wrong attire on the actual day. We may just get you replaced from the contingent.

Do familiarise yourselves with page 41 -46 of the Guides Handbook also as there are certain parade sequence you may need to know.

Thats all for the knowledge part, you don't have to memorise them and get stressed up, but just abide to them and everything would go smoothly. :)

Lastly, just another note. Guides, please do not take our comments and scoldings to heart, and do not get upset. Although we appear to be harsh, strict and fierce, we are just doing our best to make commonwealth girl guides a cca to be proud of. This is because we do not want you all to be humiliated and our standard to drop, but for girl guides to be a cca in which we can have fun but we still have discipline, and grow as mature ladies. Hence, i hope all of us can strive towards a common goal, and most importantly, love guides and unite as one. :)

Jiayou! ^^
