This is a long post so please do take some time to read :DDD
For ALL
- Collector's Badge (Deadline: Dec 2015)
- You can complete this badge in groups of 3 or in pairs.
1. Show a collection, made over a period of at least six months, of one of the following: stamps, postcards, postmarks, crest or equivalent; the material is to be drawn from many sources as possible.
Discuss with the tester:
1.1 Why she finds this hobby interesting;
1.2 What she has learnt from it;
1.3 How she can develop her interest.
Pass three of the following clauses:
2.1 Make a scrap-book for a children’s hospital;
2.2 Make a book of pictures, cutting etc; to illustrate World Guiding
(i.e. within and/or outside the Commonwealth);
2.3 (i) Make at least twelve leaf prints; name and mount them; or
- (ii) Make twelve coloured plaster casts of leaves or twigs; or
- (iii) Mount and label a collection of twigs and fruits of at least eight trees, to give to a Company or Pack.
2.4 Make a collection of at least ten objects which would be of interest to a foreign Company or Pack, and descriptive catalogue to accompany it. Pack in a box small enough to be sent aboard by letter post;
2.5 Collect and mount illustrations of six birds that the candidate has seen, together with information concerning each to include:
- (i) A description of the bird; a particular characteristics; where it is likely to be found; and what it feeds on.
- (ii) Its nest and eggs.
Present the collection to the Company library.
2.6 Make a collection of eighteen wild flowers with their leaves; press, mount and name them. Present them alone or another company.
2.7 Take a set of 15 photographs on a subject of her choice.
Note: The collection is to judge on neatness and method in arrangement and on the interest shown in it by the candidate.
- School NDP
- Yes it is this time again. When school reopen, we will have school NDP practices so all Sec 3s will be down for the practices unless there are any valid reasons.
- Some of the Sec 2s will also be chosen to be part of the school Girl Guides contingent so please improve your drills. (NDP guides will not be participating)
- There will be many intensive foot drill session coming up so be prepared and in order not to suffer during those sessions, practise. :))
For Sec 1s and 2s
- Dental Health Badge (Deadline: First cca session)
- In pairs, please spend time for research for clauses 1, 3 to 6 and make an A3-sized poster.
1. Know the structure and function of teeth.
3. Know the various oral hygiene aids and their correct use.
4. Know the importance of good nutrition for good dental health.
5. Name 6 foods which contain free sugars and how they affect dental health.
6. Demonstrate how a younger child can be taught to practice good oral hygiene.
- Citizenship Badge (Deadline: First cca session)
- For Clause 1 and 2, please complete this in a scrapbook of not less than 8 pages. (use points if possible and add some drawings or images where appropriate instead of filling the scrapbook with words only.)For Clause 3, do read through for the points you need to know. You will be tested on this during one of the cca sessions.
1. Be able to answer questions on:
1.1 Democracy
- Meaning of the term;
- The ballot-method of voting;
- The franchise-votes for all – Electoral List;
- A General Election
1.2 Prime Minister’s Office
- Community Centres;
- Residents Committees;
- Citizen’s Consultative Committees;
- Parliamentary Constituency i.e. the Guide’s own district.
1.3 Parliament
- Growth of the Parliament System in Singapore;
- The President and his Role;
- Number of Members and how they were elected;
- Composition and set-up;
- Work of Parliament – Law-making, The Civil Service, Government Dept, Statutory Boards, Commissions, Passage of a Bill;
- Members of Parliament – Work, Privileges, Re-numeration;
- The Speaker’s Duties, Assistants, The Speaker’s Chair and Insignia of Office;
- Question Time -- How it is conducted, its use;
- Parliamentary News – Reporting, Publication;
- Broadcasting and Televising – Speeches by M.Ps;
- Life of Parliament – Length of maximum life, dissolution, defeat and prorogation, vote of Censure;
- Commissions – Importance of – Nature of Investigations.
2. Practical work
Make a Scrap Book of the Government at work.
3. Be able to speak briefly on one of the following topics:
- Features of a multi-racial Society – the need for tolerance;
- The rights and responsibilities of a citizen;
- The Constitution of Singapore and how laws are made;
- Law and Security in the Republic;
- The Judiciary: Supreme Court, Magistrate’s Court, Police Court, The Armed Forces & Singapore Law;
- Relationship with the Commonwealth.
One Compulsory question to be asked will require the candidate to give account of how she herself may be a good citizen.
For Sec 1s

- Entertainer Badge (Deadline: Term 3, 2015)
- Please do not forget about this badge so do meet up and practise together during the holidays as we will test this badge soon when school reopen.
1. Perform two items, each to last at least two minutes, from the following: dancing, singing, playing an instrument, reciting.
Note: The items may be of the same kind, e.g. two contrasted songs. The standard is to be very high and suitable for a public entertainment.
2. Entertain Guides for ten minutes with at least two of the following
(other than items performed in clause 1):-
Conjuring tricks; playing whistle , banjo, harmonica, harp and any other portable instrument; character sketches; stories; songs and chorus; mime.
Note: The standard need not be high as in clause 1, but suitable for a campfire.
- Hostess Badge (Deadline: First cca session when sch reopen)
- You have completed clause 1 and 2 during the camp so now you have to do clause 3 :DD
3. Write letters (choose and write two of the following):
3.1 Inviting to a party or similar event;
3.2 Inviting a friend to stay;
3.3 Accepting an invitation, refusing an invitation (one to be formal).
3.4 Thanking after a visit.
For Sec 2s
- Dancer Badge (Deadline: Term 3, 2015)
- Please do not forget about this badge so do meet up and practise together during the holidays as we will test this badge soon when school reopen.
- You may realise that the instructions given are different from the clauses shown on the guides website but it's okay just follow what we told you.
For Sec 3s
- Initiatives and VIA Project Planning
There is many initiatives and projects planning to be completed in term 3 so please do check the group for further notice and also when we say we have to plan, please really contribute but not just be online and sometimes ignoring the messages as if they do not concern you. We are very serious about this and yes we are Sec 3s now, please be more responsible as a leader.
1. VIA projects:
- Half of you will be in charge of the Yuhua Pri Scouts and we will be having 4 sessions together with them. (2 in our school and another 2 outside) Mazel had already planned one session which is the biodiversity tour in our school so we will have to plan 3 more sessions.
- The other half of you will co-operate with Ms Shaffi's organisation. Further details will be given soon.
2. Initiatives:
- We will have to carry out 2 Inter Unit initiatives and 2 Inter UG initiatives this year so we will have to plan on the Inter Unit initiatives first while continuing editing the Inter UG initiatives we have for now. Please edit the docs when you are supposed to.
Those who didn’t go for camp:
Please complete the following and submit to us by the first cca session.
Sec 1 and 2s
- Dental Health Badge
- Make a model of a tooth using clay
- Scribe Badge
- Write any of the following on an A4 paper
- A letter inviting neighbouring Guides to spend an afternoon with her Company;
- A letter accepting such an invitation;
- A letter explaining her absence from the weekly Guide meeting;
- A letter of thanks for money received, either personally or on behalf of the patrol;
- An order to a shop enclosing money;
- An application for a post.
- Summarise a newspaper article of at least 500 words into one-third of that article
- Laundress Badge
- Be prepared for a test on the info in guides book. (Read pages on personal & social development)
Please do take note of the deadline written beside the Badge and hand them in on time. I know there's a lot work to do but please try to finish the work. (LET'S WORK HARD TO GET PNA GOLD!!!) If you have any problem finishing the work/ have any questions about the badges, please do not afraid to pm any of the excos (state your reason). :D
By the way, there are also some Sec 1s that like to pass their works to the teachers but please do not bother the teachers for such matters as some of them may not know what is it for so if you have any work to submit, please do hand in to any of the excos/any of the Sec 3s if in hurry.
