2018 Farewell Messages from Sec 4s

sec 1s: yall might think guides is boring and might hate it and even want to change cca but trust me its fun when u bond with each other. when i was a sec 1, i changed from red cross to girl guides and i used to regret it. my first thought of girl guides was boring, i always thought we would do marching and i hated marching. once during an enrollment rehearsal i cried because i couldnt take it but now looking back i wish i shouldve bonded with guides more and not always sulk at one corner and also, in girl guides we dont always do pt lol

Hi guides :)
Time flew by and although we may not have spent 4 whole years together, I hope that all of you will cherish guides. Even if you do not really like guides right now, the more time you spend and the more active you are, the more bonds you create and you will start to like it more and more. All the best to the rest of your guiding journey!!

After 4 short years, my guiding journey has come to an end. No wrong, my guiding journey has been temporarily stopped.

There has been ups and downs, maybe more downs than ups. But the highlight of guiding is the guides themselves. You. Without you, I wouldn't be where I am today. I wouldn't be blessed to be your company leader. It has been an honour. Truly.

Although I feel that I haven't done my best, as though I still have a lot more to contribute, to change and to instil in every single one of you, I'm afraid my time is up.

Now I trust the new CL, ACL, PLs and PSs to continue the legacy set by our seniors. That we are more than just girls. We are strong, independent girls, breaking stereotypes and venturing beyond.

Girl Guides is more than a CCA. It's a movement. It's an adventure.
To:

Sec 1s: Respect. Discipline. Participate. Respect you seniors, for they have more guiding knowledge than you. Be disciplined, know what to do and when, the littlest things are the things that count (ahem V-shape). Girl Guides is not fun unless you participate. Respect, Discipline, Participate– the foundation you need in order to enjoy guiding.

Sec 2s: Sec 2 is the year for you to step up. Unleash you potential, but at the same time still respect you seniors. Every single one of you is capable of being a leader, is just whether you are able to show others that you can lead. Lead by being an example to your juniors. Help your seniors when they need your help. You are the big sisters now. Show initiative all the time. Lead by example. Be the best guide you can be. Then, only then, you can consider going for future positions.

Sec 3s: The whole company is yours now. It feels surreal, I know. But don't stress over CCA too much. Make sure your not lacking in your academics. Seek help from your guiders, from your juniors, from one another.

To everyone:
Marching is very important. Why? Your marching, your foot drills reflects your attitude. A guide who locks her arms and has eyeball discipline tell me that she is disciplined, versus a guide who refuses to lock her arms and rolls her eyes at her seniors which tells me that she has no discipline and no respect. Your marching reflects your attitude. Therefore, marching is the basis of Girl Guides.

Work together. Stay close as: a patrol, a batch, a company. By now, many of you should know that there are sooo many capable people in your batch, in this company. That may be good, and it may be bad. A batch with so many strong minded, independent girls, with conflicting ideas and beliefs, can be the very reason that batch cannot function as one. Put your differences aside, always be civil, be open-minded, talk things through, then everything will be alright.

Every time some senior asks me: how's the sec 3s? I tell them, genuinely: very capable. I have no worries.
Because it's true.
Every time someone asks me: how's the sec 2s? I tell them: okay okay lah.
Every time someone asks me: how's your sec 1s? I tell them: cannot make it, damn lazy, no respect.

Now, it's up to you to change what I think of you and your batch. Reflect about what needs to be changed. And make that change. Within you and your batch.
